New MBBS Curriculum
The University of Health Sciences (UHS) Lahore has recently announced a major overhaul to the MBBS curriculum. This revamp of the MBBS syllabus is part of their ethos to bring modern medical education to Pakistan and to produce doctors with both theoretical & practical knowledge.
Key Changes in MBBS Syllabus By UHS Lahore
MBBS curriculum has been changed by university of health sciences UHS Lahore. New curriculum will consist of 44 modules. Students will be taught 5500 hours in 5 years of MBBS. Clinical training will be given from the first day of MBBS. This will improve the medical students’ clinical skills from the first day of MBBS. Previously students were taught basic medical subjects for the first 2 years of MBBS & the clinical subjects were taught in the last 3 years.
Objective of Changes in MBBS Curriculum
Professionalism, clinical skills, Quranic education, ethics, research leadership and information technology are the salient features of new MBBS syllabus. Students performance in these areas will be included in the result of professional exams at the end of each year. Family medicine and MSDS of health commission have been included in syllabus. The medical students will be taught both the basic & clinical subjects simultaneously. The main objective of these changes is to produce seven star doctors as per international standards.
Changes in MBBS Examination System
Under these moduler curriculum students will have to get 50% aggregate marks in college block exams. Students with the less than 75% attendance will not be allowed to sit in the annual professional exam. Supplementary exams will be conducted 21 days after announcement of annual exam results rather than after 40 days. This new system will be implemented from the first year MBBS class starting from 1st March. University of Health Sciences UHS Lahore will also provide every possible training and cooperation to its affiliated medical colleges.
